Consumer Health Data
Last updated: 2026-08-28
Your Culture & Language selection is your own statement about who you are — a cultural and linguistic community identity. It is not a medical assessment, a diagnosis, or a health record, and it is not submitted or claimed as one.
ASL Dating does not consider this information to be consumer health data. Two of the options — Hearing and CODA — are chosen by members who have no hearing condition at all; a CODA is a hearing child of Deaf adults. A field that members of the hearing community select to describe their place in the Deaf community is a statement of belonging, not of health.
ASL Dating is not a health care provider or a HIPAA covered entity. We do not collect diagnoses, hearing tests, decibel measurements, treatment or medical history, medications, or assistive-device data — no clinical records of any kind. Nothing you enter is reviewed, verified, or interpreted by anyone medically qualified, because none of it is medical.
We publish this page so you can see plainly what we hold and what we do with it. We do so without accepting that the Washington My Health My Data Act or any similar law applies to this information, and nothing here is an admission that it does.
The same is true of Nevada's consumer health data law (SB 370, NRS ch. 603A), which reaches a similar kind of information. This page describes our position for readers in Washington and Nevada alike. It is written once because the answer is the same in both places: the information described below identifies belonging to a community, not health status. Rights requests from either state are handled through the single process in the Privacy Policy, described in section 4 below.
1. What we collect, and why
Nobody is required to use ASL Dating. Within it, Culture & Language and ASL level are needed to complete a profile — a dating app for the Deaf and ASL community cannot match you without knowing how you communicate. What you enter is your own declaration of the community you belong to, not an assessment anyone makes about you, and you can change it at any time.
Each item below is collected because it is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
Culture & Language — Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Hearing, CODA, Oral Deaf, or Late-Deafened. A cultural and linguistic community identity, not a medical assessment. Used to show you compatible members and apply your filters.
ASL skill level and communication style — self-declared, used for language compatibility.
Photos and intro videos you upload. We do not run facial recognition, create face templates, or apply any biometric matching. Used only to show your profile as you intend.
Approximate location while the app is in use, for distance matching. Distance shown to others is bucketed to at least 10 miles; your exact location is never shown.
None of it is used to infer a health status or build a health profile, and none of it feeds advertising or pricing. Prices are the same for everyone and the app contains no third-party advertising SDK.
2. Where it comes from
Directly from you — everything above is what you enter or upload.
From your device, with permission — approximate location, only while the app is open.
Those two are the whole list. Nothing about you is bought from a data broker, an ad network, or any other outside source, because there is no third source to begin with.
3. What we share
With other members, at your direction — the profile you choose to publish, including Culture & Language, ASL level, photos/videos, and bucketed distance. That is the service working as intended.
With infrastructure providers — only to host and deliver the Service, under contracts barring their own use (Section 4).
When required by law — valid legal process, or to protect someone's safety.
To a buyer or successor — if the business is ever sold or merged. There is no such transaction; it is listed because a disclosure that omits it would be incomplete if one ever happened.
Those four are the whole list. Selling this information is not one of them, and neither is sharing it for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising — the app carries no third-party advertising SDK to share it with.
4. Who we share with
Affiliates: ASL Dating LLC has no parent, subsidiaries, or affiliates — so none receives your data.
Cloud hosting and database — stores your profile.
Media storage — private, access-restricted video storage.
SMS verification — your phone number only, no health data.
Push notifications — notification text only.
Payments — receive no consumer health data.
5. Your rights
Confirm and access — learn what we hold, access it, and get a list of everyone we shared it with, with their contact details.
Withdraw consent. There is no separate consent to withdraw — Section 6 explains why the basis is necessity rather than consent. What ends our use of this information is deleting your account, which you can do at any time in Settings → Delete Account, or by asking us.
Delete — your profile and its contents are removed from the live service within 30 days, and routine backups holding them are purged within 90 days. Backups are never used to repopulate a deleted account. The one exception is material under a legal hold, which is kept while it is needed as evidence.
To make a request: email legal@asldatingapp.com, or write to our mailing address: ASL Dating LLC, 8977 S 1300 W, Unit #460, West Jordan, UT 84088. An account is not required to make a request. Include the phone number on your account so we can find your data — it is used only to verify the request.
Requests are handled on the timetable set out in the Privacy Policy, which covers every request of this kind rather than a separate schedule for this page. If a request is refused, you can appeal, and you will get a decision in writing within 45 days. Reply to the decision, or email legal@asldatingapp.com with "Appeal" in the subject line. If the appeal is denied, you can raise it with your state Attorney General:
Washington — atg.wa.gov/file-complaint
6. Why we don't ask for consent
Laws of this kind, where they apply at all, allow collection either with your consent or where it is necessary to provide what you asked for. The basis here is necessity — you cannot be matched by communication compatibility without knowing how you communicate, and a profile cannot be shown without your photos. That is why there is no separate consent gate for it.
It is used to run the Service, and that is all it is used for.
7. Security, retention, geofencing
Encrypted in transit and at rest, in access-restricted storage, reachable by the fewest people necessary. Retention follows the schedule in the Privacy Policy — profile data deleted within 30 days of account deletion, backups purged within 90 days.
There is no geofence anywhere in the app, around a health care facility or otherwise, and no feature that identifies anyone seeking health services. Location produces only a bucketed distance of 10 miles or more.
