Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-08-30
This policy says what ASL Dating collects, why, who else sees it, how long it is kept, and what you can make us do about it. The short version: your profile is published to other members because that is the Service; messages are deleted after five days; nothing is sold; advertising for other companies may appear, but the same ads are shown to everyone and advertisers receive aggregate figures rather than information that identifies you; and when you delete your account most of what we hold goes within 30 days, with a short list kept longer for safety or because the law requires it — Section 9 says which, and why.
1. Who we are
ASL Dating LLC decides what is collected here and why, and is answerable to you for it — including for what our vendors do with it.
ASL Dating is operated by ASL Dating LLC. Its mailing address is 8977 S 1300 W, Unit #460, West Jordan, UT 84088, United States. ASL Dating LLC decides what is collected here and why, and is answerable to you for it — including for what the vendors it uses do with it.
legal@asldatingapp.com is the address for privacy questions and for any request under this policy.
2. Where this policy applies
It covers the app and the website. ASL Dating is offered in the United States only.
It applies to the ASL Dating app and to the asldatingapp.com website. It does not apply to anything you reach by leaving them — a crisis line, a safety resource, or a store listing all have their own policies.
ASL Dating is offered in the United States only. Vendors are chosen to store and process data in the United States. The Service is not marketed, sold, or knowingly provided to anyone in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or elsewhere, and registration from outside the United States may be refused or removed. There is no international transfer programme to describe.
3. What is collected
Your phone number, your birthdate, what you put on your profile, what you send to matches, and a few things your device reports. No password, no biometrics, no government ID.
What you give us
Your phone number, verified by text. It is how you sign in — there is no password and no email login.
Your birthdate, used to confirm you are 18 or over and to show your age. The birthdate itself is never shown to anyone.
Your profile: first name, photos, intro videos, Culture & Language, ASL skill level, communication style, gender, who you are interested in, bio, occupation, relationship goal, height, and interests.
What you send: chat messages and video messages exchanged with matches.
What you tell support: anything in an email to support@asldatingapp.com or legal@asldatingapp.com, including a report you file.
A phone number for legal notices, if you set one under Settings → Legal notices. It may differ from your sign-in number and is used only to send notices the law requires.
What your device gives us
Approximate location, while the app is open only — never in the background. It produces a distance, nothing more.
Device information, for one purpose: so an account removed for a safety reason cannot simply be recreated on the same phone. It is never used for advertising, never linked to an advertising identifier, and never used to build a profile of you. On Android, the identifier Android gives this app is recorded while your account is active. On iPhone, nothing is recorded at all — Apple holds a marker tied to the phone, and the only thing that can be done is ask Apple whether it is set. If a removal is reversed, the mark is cleared and you can sign in again.
Usage information — how the app is used, swipe activity, and session information.
That you used the app in a given month — one record per member per month, kept because Colorado requires an annual safety report stating what share of active members were subject to enforcement, and that share cannot be worked out afterwards. It records the month and an account identifier, and nothing about what you did. The record is kept if you delete your account, so a figure already filed with the state does not change later — at that point it is an identifier on its own, with nothing left to connect it to you.
Push notification tokens, while you are signed in.
What is deliberately not collected
No password, ever. None is asked for and none is stored.
No biometrics. There is no facial recognition, no face template, no faceprint, and no scan of face geometry anywhere in the app.
No government ID, no criminal-records check, no identity verification beyond a text reaching your phone.
No advertising identifier, because there is no advertising network in the app to consume one.
Nothing bought from a data broker, an ad network, or any other outside source. What is here is what you gave us and what your device gave us.
Permissions the app asks for
Five, each asked for at the moment it is first needed, each optional, and each withdrawable in your device settings. Declining one does not close your account — it turns off the feature that needs it.
Location (while using the app) — works out an approximate distance to other members and applies your distance filter. Decline it and the deck cannot be sorted by distance.
Camera — recording an intro video or video message, and taking a profile photo. Decline it and you can still choose an existing photo.
Microphone — captures the sound that goes with a video. Decline it and video messages are unavailable, because the camera records picture and sound together.
Photo library — lets you pick an existing picture. Decline it and you can still take a new one.
Notifications — lets your phone alert you to a new match, a new message, or a safety notice. Decline it and your phone shows you nothing; the app still works and the alerts are waiting inside it, but you have to open it to find them. Which categories you get is a separate choice in Settings.
Two things about location worth saying out loud rather than leaving to be inferred.
Your coordinates are never shown to another member. What other members see is a bucket — "Within 10 miles", "Within 25 miles", "Within 50 miles", "Within 100 miles", or "Over 100 miles". Never an exact distance, a pin, or an address. The coordinates that are stored are deliberately imprecise.
Location hidden inside your photos is removed before upload. A photo taken on a phone often carries GPS coordinates in its metadata. Every photo you add is re-encoded before it leaves your device, which discards that. If a photo cannot be processed it is not uploaded at all, rather than uploaded as it came. This applies to photos; intro videos and video messages are recorded in the app rather than chosen from your library, and their metadata is not separately stripped.
4. How it is used
To run the Service, to keep people safe, and to meet legal duties. Not to target advertising at you.
Showing your profile to other members, and showing you theirs.
Working out approximate distance and applying the filters you set.
Delivering your messages and video messages to the person you sent them to.
Confirming you are 18 or over, and signing you in.
Detecting and acting on fraud, scams, and conduct that breaks the Terms.
Sending notifications about matches, messages, likes, and Super Likes — which you control under Settings → Notifications.
Sending safety notices the law requires, including warning you when an account you had been in contact with is removed because it appeared to be attempting fraud or using a false identity.
Processing subscriptions through Apple and Google.
Fixing faults and improving the app, using aggregated information that does not identify anyone.
What is never done with it. Your photos, intro videos, phone number, messages, profile, and sensitive information are not sold and are not shared for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is no third-party advertising SDK and no analytics SDK in the app. None of it is used to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning systems, by us or by anybody else.
Automated decisions
Matching and ranking follow fixed rules — your filters, your swipe history, and approximate location. There is no learning model, the ranking produces no legal effect on you, and your filters override it at any time.
Automatic suspension is a real automated decision, and it is deliberate. A report in any category the report form offers suspends the reported account immediately, by rule rather than by judgement, without waiting for anyone to read it. It restricts access without prior human review, and it can be reversed on appeal within 72 hours by emailing support@asldatingapp.com. A timely appeal is read by a person. Anti-abuse limits stop one account driving repeated suspensions of others.
Apart from that, and from removing an account when someone indicates they are under 18 and blocking a phone number from registering again, no solely automated decision denies you access, sets your price, or produces a similarly significant effect. To ask for a person to look at an automated decision affecting you, email legal@asldatingapp.com.
5. How it is shared
Your profile is shown to other members, because that is the Service. Beyond that, only vendors acting on our instructions — nothing is sold.
With other members — which is the Service, not a disclosure
Visible to other members: your first name, age, photos, intro videos, bio, Culture & Language and ASL selections, occupation, relationship goal, height, interests, and a bucketed distance. This happens before any match exists — that is how the deck works, and you choose what goes in it.
Not visible to other members: your phone number, your coordinates or any exact location, your birthdate, your payment details, and your conversations with anyone else.
Private to a conversation: your chat messages and video messages — you, the match you sent them to, and authorized safety review if they are reported.
What cannot be prevented. Screenshotting and re-sharing another member's content is forbidden by the Terms and acted on when reported, but no app can stop a phone photographing its own screen. Treat anything you post or send as capable of being kept by the person who sees it.
With the vendors that run the Service
Each is bound by a written agreement to keep it confidential, to use it only as instructed, and to secure it. None of them may use it for anything of their own.
Cloud hosting, database, and authentication (United States).
Private encrypted storage and delivery of video messages.
Bot mitigation at sign-up and sign-in.
Text message delivery.
Push notification delivery.
App distribution and subscription processing, as merchant of record.
Crash and error diagnostics. When the app breaks, a report describing what the software was doing is sent so the fault can be fixed. Not analytics: nothing is measured, nothing is tracked between sessions, and none of it is used to build a picture of you. Sent only when something goes wrong.
The cloud infrastructure those providers themselves run on.
Vendors of this operational kind may be added, replaced, or dropped without notice to you. That reservation does not extend to advertising networks, advertising SDKs, or analytics SDKs — none is used, and adding one would mean updating this policy and providing any control the law requires before the change took effect.
By continuing to use the Service you consent to your data being processed by ASL Dating's then-current vendors. An up-to-date list is available on request — email legal@asldatingapp.com and you will be told who they are.
Everyone else
Where the law requires it — a valid court order, subpoena, or legal process, or where disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect someone's safety, investigate fraud, or enforce the Terms.
To safety regulators, where online-dating safety laws require reports about member-safety practices. Those reports carry aggregate figures — how many reports were received, what action followed — and contain no profile, photo, or message.
To the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, where a report involves a minor and the law requires referral.
If the business is sold or merged, you will be told before your data moves.
Two headings that are empty here, on purpose
Affiliates. ASL Dating LLC has no parent, no subsidiaries, and no sister companies. There is no group of apps sharing member data behind the scenes, because there is no group.
Advertisers. If advertising is ever added it will be served by ASL Dating from its own systems. An advertiser is sent counts: how many times an ad was shown, how many accounts saw it, and a breakdown by gender. Your name, photos, videos, messages and profile are not sent to advertisers. Which ads you see does not depend on your gender, who you are interested in, or your Culture & Language selection: the same ads are shown to everyone.
6. Sensitive information
Culture & Language and ASL level are cultural and linguistic identity, not health data. They are part of your profile, editable at any time, and handled with the extra care sensitive information gets.
Some of what you publish may count as "sensitive personal information" under California and similar state laws:
Information from which sexual orientation could be inferred — the genders you are interested in.
Your Culture & Language selection — Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Hearing, CODA, Oral Deaf, or Late-Deafened. This is a cultural and linguistic community identity that you choose for yourself and publish to other members, not a medical or audiological assessment. Nothing in it is requested, submitted, or claimed as medical, clinical, or disability information, and none of it is verified by anyone medically qualified. No diagnosis, hearing test, decibel measurement, treatment history, or assistive-device data is collected.
Photos and intro videos, from which characteristics could in principle be inferred. There is no facial recognition, no face template, and no biometric identifier of any kind.
What this is used for is matching, and nothing else. It shows your profile to potentially compatible members and applies the filters you set. It is not used to infer anything further about you, to set your price, to decide your eligibility, or to build a profile of you, and it is not sold or shared for advertising.
You can ask us to limit that use, and you do not have to close your account to do it. The use is already limited to operating the Service, so there is no further limiting to perform. If you would like that confirmed in writing, email legal@asldatingapp.com. Deleting your account is of course available at any time under Settings → Delete Account, but that is your choice rather than the price of this right.
What is relied on is the choice you make in each field, not your acceptance of these documents. You pick each value yourself, you publish it, and you can change or clear it at any time in Settings → Edit Profile. That distinction is deliberate: several state privacy laws expressly exclude acceptance of broad terms of use from what counts as consent, so a clause saying "by creating a profile you consent" would not be worth the words. The affirmative act is the selection.
7. Security
Reasonable measures, described plainly — and an honest statement of what they cannot guarantee.
Encrypted in transit and at rest.
Access-restricted storage, reachable by the fewest people necessary.
Video messages are kept in access-restricted storage, and playback is authorised per request rather than open.
No service can promise absolute security, and yours matters too: your phone number is your way in, so a SIM swap, a lost phone, or someone else reading your text messages defeats it from your side.
If a breach materially affecting your personal information is confirmed, you will be notified in the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay, and in no case more than 30 days after we determine a breach occurred. Where your state's law sets a shorter deadline, an earlier trigger, more detail, or notice to a regulator, that law is followed.
If your account has been deleted and your contact details erased, we cannot reach you, and no separate list of former members is kept for the purpose — holding your number after deletion in case of a future breach would defeat the deletion. In that case substitute notice is used, as the law permits: a conspicuous notice on the website, notification to major statewide media, and notice to the Attorney General where required.
8. Your rights
You can see it, correct it, delete it, take it with you, and appeal if we say no.
Wherever you live in the United States, these are yours here — not only in the states that legislated them. Email legal@asldatingapp.com with "Privacy Request" in the subject line.
Know and access — what is held about you, where it came from, why, and who it went to, plus a copy.
Correct — fix anything inaccurate. Most of it you can edit yourself under Settings → Edit Profile.
Delete — Settings → Delete Account, or ask us. Section 9 sets out what survives and why.
Portability — a copy in a machine-readable format.
Limit the use of sensitive information — see Section 6, where the answer is that the use is already limited.
Opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, and profiling — none of which happens here, so there is nothing to switch off. The right to ask, and to be told that, stands.
Non-discrimination — exercising any of these costs you nothing. No denial of service, no different price, no different quality, no retaliation.
How it works. Identity is verified using your registered phone number, and further verification may be asked for a sensitive request. A response comes within 45 days, extendable once by a further 45 for a complex request. An authorized agent may act for you with written authorisation signed by you and proof of their own identity. You do not need an account to make a request.
If a request is refused, you can appeal. That is a right, not a courtesy. Reply to the decision, or email legal@asldatingapp.com with "Appeal" in the subject line. A written decision with reasons comes within 60 days. If the appeal is denied, you will be given a way to complain to your state's Attorney General.
Nothing is sold or shared, so an opt-out preference signal — Global Privacy Control, Do Not Track, or any successor — has nothing here to switch off. None is disregarded. You are kept signed in by a credential held for that purpose: in your device's own protected storage in the app, and in your browser on the web. It is not used to follow you to other sites. Any analytics used here are aggregated and do not identify you — not a profile of you, and not used to target advertising.
If you live in California, the California Privacy Addendum sets out the same practices sorted into the categories the CCPA uses — what is collected, where it comes from, why, who it is disclosed to, and the position on sale and sharing — together with your rights and how to exercise them. It supplements this policy and does not replace it.
9. How long things are kept
Messages 5 days. Most other things 30 days after you delete your account. A short list is kept longer for safety or because the law requires it, and that list says which and why.
In short: messages go in five days whether you delete your account or not. Almost everything else goes within 30 days of deletion. A short list is kept longer for safety or because the law requires it — that list is below, with what and why.
Profile data — name, age, photos, intro videos, bio, Culture & Language, ASL level, interests: while your account is active, then 30 days. Routine backups roll off within 90 days and are never used to repopulate a deleted account.
Chat and video messages — 5 days from sending, whether or not you delete your account, and only so a message reaches someone who was offline. There is no long-term archive. Unmatching, blocking, or reporting removes the conversation for both people straight away rather than waiting; deleting your account hides it immediately and deletes it within 5 days.
Phone number — 12 months after deletion, to deter immediate re-registration. Indefinitely if the account was banned for a safety reason or removed for suspected fraud, so the ban cannot be evaded by signing up on the same number.
Reported conversations — a snapshot copied to separate access-restricted storage at the moment of the report, kept up to 30 days and possibly less. If the reported account is deleted first, a snapshot of a scam or fraud attempt, threatening or violent messages, or inappropriate or explicit content is kept for the remainder of its 30 days, because those are the reports most likely to need review or referral and letting a deletion erase the evidence would defeat the report. Every other category goes with the account. Deleting an account never extends the 30 days — it only stops them being cut short.
Reports involving a minor — a report of an underage user, of grooming or targeting a minor, or of trafficking or exploitation is placed under legal hold and kept at least one year. The report is the evidence of the thing reported. Where it is submitted to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, federal law treats that as a request to preserve its contents for a year from submission.
Report metadata — who reported whom, the category, the date, the outcome: up to 2 years, for spotting repeat offenders and ban evasion and for defending false claims.
Suspension records — 2 years after the account closes.
Monthly active-member records — the month and an account identifier, nothing else: kept indefinitely, including after you delete your account. Colorado requires an annual safety report stating what share of active members were subject to enforcement, and deleting these would change a figure already filed with the state. Once your account is gone the record is an identifier with nothing left to connect it to you.
Safety-notification records — evidence that a legally required safety notice was sent, including the first name and phone number of the member notified: 3 years. This record is kept to show compliance with, and to defend claims under, online-dating safety laws — the Colorado Online Dating Safety Act, the Utah Online Dating Safety Act, and New York's online-dating safety law among them.
Legal-agreement acceptance and disclosure-delivery records — which version you were shown or accepted, and when: 7 years, and kept even after deletion, because proving what was delivered is the entire point of the record.
Subscription records — 3 years. Apple and Google are the merchant of record and hold the primary payment records under their own terms; what is kept here is aggregated revenue summaries.
Push notification tokens — until you sign out or delete. They stop working at that point anyway.
Swipe records — while your account is active, so the same profile is not shown twice and matches work. "Start Over" deletes the profiles you passed on.
Aggregated anonymous analytics — indefinitely. It is no longer personal data and cannot be traced back to you.
Where a law, court order, or pending claim requires it, specific records may be kept beyond these periods, limited to what that obligation covers. Anything retained is stored securely, access-restricted, used only for the reason it was kept, and never used for matching, profiling, advertising, or marketing.
10. Text messages
The only texts are your sign-in code and the notices California law requires. No marketing, ever.
Program name: ASL Dating account verification and legal notices. Two kinds of message are sent, and no others:
Your one-time sign-in code, sent only when you ask for one — so the frequency is entirely yours. There is no password and no email login, so this is how you get into your own account.
Notices the law requires, if you use the reporting route in Section 12 — a written confirmation, updates while the report is open, and the outcome. These go to a number you choose, which may differ from your sign-in number.
No marketing texts are sent at all. Your mobile number, your text-messaging opt-in, and your consent to receive texts are never shared with, or sold to, third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Message and data rates may apply depending on your plan; ASL Dating does not charge for them, and carriers are not liable for a delayed or undelivered message. For help, reply HELP or email support@asldatingapp.com.
To stop them, reply STOP — but understand what that does. Your phone number is how you sign in, and there is no password and no email fallback. Stop the messages and you will not receive a sign-in code and will not be able to get into your account. Reply START to begin receiving them again, or email support@asldatingapp.com.
Push and in-app notifications are separate and are controlled under Settings → Notifications, or turned off entirely in your device settings. Service messages — matches, messages, security and account alerts — are part of how the Service works. Safety notices required by law are always delivered and cannot be muted, and remain available in the app under Safety Alerts. No marketing or promotional messages are sent; if that ever changes, they will be off by default and sent only with your opt-in.
11. Children
This is an 18+ service. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18 it is removed and reported where the law requires.
ASL Dating is for adults aged 18 and over. Personal information is not knowingly collected from anyone under 18.
Where an account is found to belong to someone under 18 it is suspended, its profile removed from view, and its data deleted except where it is being kept as evidence. A report that a member is underage suspends the account automatically.
Reports involving a minor are referred to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children or other authorities where the law requires, and preserved as described in Section 9.
The phone number is kept so the account cannot come straight back: 12 months where the person told us at sign-up that they were under 18, and indefinitely where the account was removed after a report.
Because nobody under 18 is permitted, information protected by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act is not knowingly collected.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe someone under 18 has registered, email support@asldatingapp.com.
12. Reporting material that shows you as a minor
If something here shows you and you were under 18 in it, you can report it and we owe you written updates on a schedule set by law.
If a photo, video, or message on ASL Dating shows you, and you were under 18 in it, report it from Safety Center → An image of you as a minor. Your age now does not matter — what matters is your age in the material. This is separate from the Report button used for another member's conduct.
You choose the phone number for updates. It need not be your sign-in number, and you can set it in advance under Settings → Legal notices. The law requires the contact method be one you choose and one not under our control, which is why updates go by text rather than as an in-app or push notification.
A written confirmation is sent to that number when you submit.
A written update is sent at least every 7 days while the report is open.
The review is completed within 30 days, or within 60 where circumstances outside reasonable control prevent it, in which case the reason is recorded.
Replies to the number those updates come from are not read. Use support@asldatingapp.com to add anything.
The report and every update sent are kept at least a year, because federal law requires it.
You do not need to attach or re-send the material, and you should not. Telling us where it is is enough.
13. Changes to this policy
We will say what changed, and tell you in advance where the law requires it.
The "last updated" date at the top changes with the policy.
A material change is notified in the app before it takes effect.
A material change that widens how personal data is used will not be applied retroactively to data already collected without your renewed consent.
Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect accepts the revised policy.
Older versions are archived and available on request.
