ASL Dating is an online dating service built for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and ASL community, available to users in the United States who are 18 or older. Your safety matters to us. This policy explains the conduct we prohibit, what we do and do not verify about other members, how we handle reports, and practical steps you can take to stay safe. Please read it before you connect with anyone through the app.
1. What we do — and don't — check about other members
We do NOT conduct criminal background checks. ASL Dating does not run criminal-history checks, sex-offender registry screening, or any other background investigation on its members. A person appearing on ASL Dating has not been screened for a criminal record of any kind.
We do NOT verify government identity. We do not confirm any member's legal name, photograph, or identity against a government-issued ID. Profiles reflect what members tell us about themselves, and that information may not be accurate or truthful.
Do we exclude people with criminal convictions? The Terms require every member to confirm they have never been convicted of, and have never pleaded guilty or no contest to, a crime involving violence, the threat of violence, or sexual misconduct, and that they are not required to register as a sex offender. Because no screening is performed, that confirmation is not checked when an account is created — it is a promise the member makes. Where it is later found to be untrue, the account is removed.
What we do verify: every account is tied to a verified phone number (a one-time passcode), and members must attest that they are 18 or older. Age is self-declared; we do not verify it with a government ID.
Because we do not screen members, treat everyone you meet through the app as a stranger and follow the safety steps in Section 5. Communications you receive — including claims about who someone is, their age, their job, or their intentions — may be false.
2. Conduct that is prohibited
The following are strictly prohibited. Engaging in any of them can result in immediate suspension and permanent removal:
Any sexual contact or sexual conduct without the other person's freely given consent. Sexual activity without consent is never acceptable, violates this policy, is against the law, and may result in criminal or civil liability.
Sexual exploitation or abuse; any sexual content involving a minor (we report suspected child sexual abuse material to the authorities as required by law).
Soliciting or engaging in commercial sex, sex trafficking, or human trafficking.
Threats, intimidation, stalking, harassment, or incitement of violence.
Nudity or sexually explicit imagery.
Using a false identity, impersonating another person, or misrepresenting your age.
Fraud, romance/confidence scams, or soliciting money, gifts, or financial information from other members.
Sharing another person's private information or intimate images without consent.
Any account operated by, or presenting, a person under 18.
Misconduct that threatens public or personal safety, including homicide, assault, kidnapping, robbery, theft, stalking, harassment, unlawful sexual behaviour, and causing another person to become intoxicated without their knowledge or consent. Arranging to meet a member in order to commit any of these is prohibited whether or not it happens on the app.
3. How to report someone, and what happens next
How to report: Open the ⋮ menu in any chat or on any match or profile and choose Report & Block, or email support@asldatingapp.com. Reports are confidential — the person you report is not told who reported them.
How we respond:
Reports of inappropriate or explicit content, threatening or violent messages, harassment or bullying, hate speech or discrimination, an underage user, grooming or targeting a minor, sex trafficking or exploitation, a scam or fraud attempt, or a fake, spam, or bot account result in immediate, automatic suspension of the reported account.
Automatic suspension is subject to limits that stop one account from driving repeated suspensions. Where a suspension is held back by those limits, two distinct reports from different members still result in suspension pending review. An account is permanently banned if a violation is confirmed.
For the report categories above, action is automatic and immediate — the account is suspended by the system itself, not placed in a queue for someone to look at. There is no committed timeframe for human review beyond that.
Reports involving suspected child sexual abuse are escalated and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and/or law enforcement as required by law.
When you block someone, you will no longer see each other or be able to contact each other. Blocking is permanent.
Filing knowingly false reports, or reporting someone for malicious, biased, or other illegitimate reasons, is itself a violation and can result in suspension or a ban of the reporting account. The report button is for harm, not for disagreement, and not for who somebody is.
If your account is suspended or banned, you can appeal. The screen shown when you open the app carries an appeal form, and you can also email support@asldatingapp.com. An appeal must be submitted within 72 hours of the suspension. Appeals are read and answered, and a suspension can be lifted and the account reinstated where the appeal is granted.
Removing intimate images shared without consent. If an intimate image of you has been shared here without your consent, its removal can be requested — an account is not needed, and someone authorized to act for you may ask on your behalf. Email support@asldatingapp.com with:
your physical or electronic signature;
enough information to find the image (a link, a profile name, or a description of where it appears);
a statement, made in good faith, that the image was published without your consent;
and contact information so the outcome can reach you.
Material identified in a valid request is removed within 48 hours, and reasonable efforts are made to remove identical copies.
4. When we remove an account for a scam
We do not send you notifications when we ban members for most policy violations — if someone you matched with is removed, the match and conversation are simply withdrawn. However, if we ban a member specifically because we believe they were attempting to defraud other members or using a false identity, we will send an in-app notice (and a push notification, if you have those enabled) to the members who had been in contact with that account. That notice will identify the account, warn you that it may have used a false identity or attempted fraud, remind you never to send money or financial information to another member, and link you to tips for avoiding online-dating fraud.
5. Staying safe — before, during, and after you connect
Never send money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency, and never share bank, card, or login details — no matter how compelling the story. Requests for money are the #1 sign of a scam.
Keep conversations inside the app until you genuinely trust someone. You never have to share your phone number — the app has built-in messaging and video messages.
Be wary of anyone who professes strong feelings very quickly, always has an excuse not to meet or video chat, or tries to move you to another app right away.
When you decide to meet, meet in a public place, tell a friend where you're going and when you'll be back, arrange your own transportation, stay sober, and keep control of your phone and belongings.
Trust your instincts. If something feels off, you don't owe anyone an explanation — leave.
If you are in immediate danger, contact 911. In most areas you can text 911, or use a relay/videophone service.
6. Help you can reach without a voice call
Every resource below can be reached by videophone, ASL, text, or online chat — no voice call required. Voice numbers are listed only where a text or chat option also exists.

For members in Colorado: Violence Free Colorado (violencefreecolorado.org) lists local domestic-violence programs statewide; You Have The Right (youhavetherightco.org) explains survivors' rights in Colorado; and the Colorado Crime Victim Services Directory at coloradocrimevictims.org helps you find services near you.
7. What we do to help keep the community safer
We do not screen members, and no app can guarantee safety. These are the concrete measures we do operate:
Every account is tied to a verified phone number, and one number can hold only one account.
A removed account's phone number is blocked from registering again. Someone we ban cannot simply make a fresh profile with the same phone. This is enforced on the server at sign-up, not just in the app.
Report & Block is available in every chat, match, and profile, and reports are confidential.
A report suspends the account immediately, before any review — inappropriate or explicit content, threatening or violent messages, harassment or bullying, hate speech or discrimination, an underage user, grooming or targeting a minor, sex trafficking or exploitation, a scam or fraud attempt, or a fake, spam, or bot account. This is subject to limits that stop one account from driving repeated suspensions.
Evidence is preserved at the moment a report is filed, so that a review reflects what was actually reported rather than what an account looks like later. Reports are handled on the basis described in Section 4 of our Terms.
Blocking is permanent and works both ways — it survives signing out and reinstalling the app.
Your distance is never shown closer than 10 miles, so it cannot be used to locate your home.
Photos and videos are kept in private storage, not on the public internet, and chat messages are automatically deleted after 5 days.
The app asks the operating system to block screenshots and screen recording. On Android this is enforced by the system; on iPhone it depends on behaviour Apple can change. Treat it as a deterrent, not a guarantee — assume anything you send could be captured.
No advertising networks and no data sales. The app contains no third-party ad or tracking SDKs.
8. Who we are
ASL Dating is operated by ASL Dating LLC, a Utah limited liability company, 8977 S 1300 W, Unit #460, West Jordan, UT 84088. Questions about this policy or a safety concern: support@asldatingapp.com.
No service can guarantee your safety. This policy describes practices we follow; it does not create a duty of care, a guarantee, or a promise to protect you, and it does not change the allocation of risk in our Terms of Service.
9. Compliance with state online-dating safety laws
This policy describes what is and is not prohibited on ASL Dating, how to report a member, and what happens after a report. Safety information for new members is provided separately, in the Safety Awareness notice shown when an account is created and available any time from Settings.
State online-dating safety laws set out what a service like this one must tell its members. This policy and the Safety Awareness notice are written to meet those requirements. Where a law also requires something to be published on a website or filed with a state office, that step is handled separately and is not described here.
